Boulders? Those ain't boulders. When the contractor did the dirt work for our new home foundation here in New Mexico we ended up with hundreds of boulders, many over 10 tons each and two at 18 tons each !! They are all still on the property, some as yard art. The big Komatsu struggled but got those two big'uns out.

Yeah... watching Chris work around the rocks and boulders and knowing the disorganization of the project coordinator running the show... I think my next question to that coordinator would be where does he want his boulders piled up on his site. Tell him Id be glad to stack them up in the timber or on a corner of his finished grade... his choice. I know a few smart keyboard warriors might say something along the lines of him telling Chris he wouldnt get his draw till they are moved or his job is finished... or something like that. Every sword has two edges. He quality craftsmen that give a damn about your project and are expeditious at making it happen dont grow on trees. I dont know who let the contract on this site... the property owner/investor or the general contractor. Whomever has the cash to do this tries to keep a handful of reliable dirt contractors who have the knowledge, cash on hand and tractor/truck power lined up because they normally do a few of these each year. Point being... the project coordinator who aint coordinating is more expendable that a reliable dirt contractor... unless he us the project owner’s wife’s baby brother... then Chris just needs to wait and load them broke rocks after he moves them 2-3 more times.

Whats with the extra axles on the trucks. How do they go around corners? In australia we only have tandem drive 10 wheelers or 12 wheel tandem steers.
Lou. Kodgeپیش ماه
@Lou. Kodge Some have the tags as self steering axles, others just drag them. The newest trucks may even have steerable axles connected so they follow the front tires. Depends on how they were set up from the builder and if the axles were factory or added later. The stupid thing is that those axles really don't do anything for the trucks real weight capacity, they can carry the full load with them up. The axles are only there to comply with the state/federal weight laws.
Blazer02LSپیش ماه
@Blazer02LS How do yhey go around corners? Do they lift up the non driving axles every corner or just drag them around corners and ruin lots of tyres.
Lou. Kodgeپیش ماه
Needed to reduce the amount of weight per axle. The US has what is called a bridge weight law and weight limits on most roads. Makes it stupid easy to get ticketed if you are not really careful

I will tell you what, I was on a haul off job, and the guy I was hauling off stopped me as I was backing in. He was panicked, He needed to go to the hospital his wife was having their baby a few weeks early. He asked if I would load the trucks for the rest of the day. He had a brand new John Deere 210g. Only 130 hrs on her. He had one of the largest buckets on that machine, and we were excavating a cut where the bottom of the tracks were about 10 feet higher than the top of the bed on the dump trucks. I must say with a huge bucket, I did not like loading trucks that far below me. I felt like I was really dumping huge amount into the bed uncontrolled. It was such a large bucket that it felt like as you stretched out the arm to fill the trucks the excavator was going to end up in the bed along with the dirt in the bucket. Got it done but I just felt uncomfortable all afternoon.
